Make It Do Or Do Without: A Resolution To Buy Less In 2012

After one too many online purchases, one blogger is trying to buy nothing new for the entire year to try to prove that happiness isn’t about the accumulation of more stuff.

On the website she created for the project, dubbed Make It Do, she lists her guidelines. If she uses something up—food or lipstick, for example—she can replace it. With the exception of running shoes, she’s going to try not to buy clothes at all. If she wears a hole in her jeans, she’ll patch it up. Spending money on vacations and meals out is okay, but buying MP3s or e-books is not.
